It’s a 4th of July Baby Announcement, complete with sparklers, fireworks and lots of memories in the making!
Each year my family gets together for a big Independence Day celebration. Over the years our fireworks displays have become bigger and our unspoken competition for who can wear the most absurdly patriotic outfit just gets crazier and crazier. It’s a time where we can all get together, relax and have a whole lot of fun!
Adam and I always make the trek down to Alabama to be a part of the festivities. We thought it was going to be a 4th like any other, with more fireworks than anyone has business shooting off, but we were pleasantly surprised.
On July 3rd we met my cousin Wesley and his wife Brittany to have lunch and do some shopping for the 4th. What happened next made this year’s celebration all the more special!
Wes showed me some sparklers they’d bought for the party. There was cute little note attached that read “We’re excited to say our little firecracker is on the way!”
After lots of hugs and an attempt to choke back some tears we heard the story, they had just found out they were expecting and thought what better time to make this sweet announcement than when the family was gathered together!
They asked us if we would help them with the announcement on the 4th by being ready with our cameras to capture everyone’s reaction.
Adam and I were of course touched and honored that they asked us and we quickly agreed. I should note that this isn’t the first time we have been enlisted by our family on the 4th for a special event such as this. It was only a few years ago that Wes’ brother Will asked us to hide out in the woods to capture his proposal to Rachel, whose engagement and wedding later we had the pleasure of photoing.
Somehow I made it through the night and into the next day without letting this secret slip out, though I was certain it was written all over my face!
As wedding photographers we get a chance to be a part of other people’s families for a day and be immersed in all of the joy and love that comes with it. There is nothing like photoing an event for your own family because it’s the kind of joy and love that you can stay in for longer than a weekend.
We arrived at my aunt Connie’s house (Wes’ mother) and invited everyone out to light some sparklers. Check out the photos below to get a glimpse into the joy and excitement that followed!
We love you Wes and Brittany! Thank you for letting us be a part of your little secret! We know we are going to love your little firecracker!
TIME FOR THE 4TH! The ladies tend to skew more towards cutely patriotic while the guys, well, you’ll see…
