If we had to use one word to describe Uju and Tim’s Martins West wedding, that word would be joyous. From beginning to end pure joy radiated from the two of them and it spread to all of us who were there.
We’ve had the pleasure of knowing Tim for several years and when he introduced us to Uju, it was instantly clear what Tim saw in her. Her happy, outgoing personality and contagious laugh was the perfect match for Tim’s quiet, more reserved demeanor.
We had a chance see how truly perfect for each other they are during their Washington, DC engagement session, so we were quite excited to spend an entire day with them on their wedding day!
We were also excited about this wedding because Uju is Nigerian and after hearing about the traditional clothing, full of colorful, rich fabrics and detail, we knew that there would be some amazing photo opportunities.
Plus, we absolutely love having these opportunities to be exposed to different cultures and traditions. It is definitely a perk of the job!
Their Martin’s West wedding began in the Hampton Inn, where Uju, Tim and the bridal party gathered to prepare for the coming celebration.
Uju and Tim’s first look took place under a canopy of trees at Martin’s West, where Tim had the reaction every bride hopes for when he saw her for the first time. Ever the gentleman, he offered her a kiss on her hand, which was right out of a fairy tale!
Soon their family arrived, dressed beautiful shades of blue, which was the color chosen by Uju.
The women were all wearing aso-ebi, a tradition in Nigeria of wearing a uniform dress that symbolizes solidarity and cooperation.
A lively reception followed inside Martin’s West in a beautiful ballroom.
One of the highlights of the night came during the introductions, when before the couple were introduced the family of Uju and Tim paraded out, dancing so joyously! It was truly something special to witness.
After dinner and a fantastic dance by the newlyweds, the dancing began.
Towards the end of the night, Uju and Tim stepped off the dance floor and returned in traditional Nigerian attire. They looked incredible!
It was an incredible day and when the clock struck 1AM and everything was over the joyous energy was still prevalent among those still left out on the dance floor. We said goodbye and left feeling so honored to have witnessed such a special wedding of two pretty fantastic people.
