Lori and Peter’s Raleigh courthouse wedding was exactly what they hoped it would be, a celebration of their love for each other, surrounded by their family.
Photoing weddings for friends is always a treat, because you are able to spend the day with them, dedicating yourself to capturing special moments between themselves and their families. What better way to show them you love them than that?! Lori and Peter’s wedding is no exception.
We’ve been friends with Lori and Peter for several years now. As coworkers I bonded with Lori over photography and our love of craft nights, so it was only natural that she fill in for Adam and photo our dear friend Hope’s wedding while Adam was off photoing at the Newport Jazz Festival.
We met Peter and instantly saw the connection between him and Lori. Over the next couple of years we watched their relationship grow and would frequently discuss their assumed wedding and the fact that we of course want to be there to photograph it.
It was no surprise when I received a text from Lori asking if we were available August 8 for their wedding at the courthouse in Raleigh. While at the beach in North Carolina, under a moonlit sky, Peter had proposed! The engagement ring? A moonstone! How beautiful and poetic is that?
This was our first Raleigh courthouse wedding. With just family in attendance, it was a perfect reflection of Lori and Peter’s desire to simply be married, no glitz and glam needed.
The morning of their wedding, we went to Lori’s hotel room at the Embassy Suites where she was getting ready with her mother.
In the sitting area, her father was very carefully steaming her dress to make it perfect for her. Her brother and sister in law came in to check on her progress and to spend a little time with the bride before everything started.
We met Peter downtown in Nash Square for their first look. Raleigh has so many wonderful parks and this one was perfect for the occasion, especially since it was across from the courthouse!
As they stood in front of Judge Davis, in a beautiful wood paneled courtroom, their family stood close by, witnessing the marriage of Lori and Peter. It was a perfect ceremony.
After the ceremony, we returned to Nash Square to take some portraits with the family.
Lori had suggested a large group photo where the family threw confetti over them, which we of course loved!
She also brought along some large balloons filled with confetti, which added the perfect pop of color to the green park.
Following the photos, we all made our way over to lunch at Clouds Brewing.
The space was decorated by Lori’s family with balloons, garland, a cute paper wreath assembled by her parent’s and silver balloons exclaiming “Hooray”, which was also the sentiment of the cake topper and truthfully the entire day!
We ended the day with some portraits inside the 21c Museum Hotel in Durham, where Lori and Peter had rented the penthouse suite for the night.
We said good bye, wished them well and left filled with joy and happiness that our friends’ wedding day had been so sweet and perfect.
Thank you for a beautiful wedding you guys!
We wish you a lifetime filled with love, laughter and adventure.
