Lyndsey and Nick’s Saint Petersburg Florida Wedding was scheduled to take place in March 2020. It was one of our first events of the year that was surrounded by uncertainty, questioning whether it was safe to gather or not. It was eventually decided that it should be rescheduled for a time that would be safer, hopefully early 2021.
Like all of our couples this past year, we truly felt for Lyndsey and Nick. We were so excited for this wedding because it had been one we were hoping to be a part of for quite a long time! Adam first met Lyndsey when working on the NPR Music team photoing the Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals (Lyndsey is an editor for NPR and Adam worked freelance for them before joining the official Newport Festivals photography team. You can find more of his music photography work over at adamkissick.com). Lyndsey had always been so complementary of our wedding work and had said that one day when she got married she wanted us to photo it! So we anxiously awaited that day when we got the message that she wanted us to come to Florida for her wedding! We were so excited to come down and capture the wedding of someone who had been so sweet and supportive of us!
Thankfully the stars aligned earlier than expected and Lyndsey and Nick were able to have an incredibly beautiful and intimate backyard wedding in the fall of 2020. It may not have been what was originally planned, but the feeling throughout was that this day was better than anything they could have ever dreamed.
GETTING READY AT THE SALON
We always love when hair and makeup happens offsite at a salon because the setting tends to lend itself to great photojournalistic moments, capturing the energy of the salon as multiple people get their hair and makeup done simultaneously. What made Lyndsey’s wedding morning very special was that it began at The Cottage, the salon owned by her mother!
Since they were unable to join her in person, Lyndsey’s family of coworkers at NPR treated her to the sweetest prerecorded message wishing her well on her wedding day!
How’s this for a loving brother? Lyndsey’s brother surprised her with a bouquet of flowers to wish her a happy wedding day. I think everyone may have gotten a little teary eyed in this moment!
GETTING READY AT THE HOUSE
After hair and makeup was through everyone gathered at Lyndsey’s parents’ house for the finishing touches. Their home was also the site of the reception that evening so the house was busy with activity as the incredible florists from The Bride’s Bouquet worked to create a beautiful floral archway to welcome their guests.
The moments around brides getting dressed are some of our absolute favorites! The emotions that resonate from everyone are so beautiful and we try to capture them all! Lyndsey’s was no exception. There was no shortage of excitement and love coming from her, her mother or her bridesmaids!
Even the family dog got in on the festivities!
Nick arrived at the house to finish getting ready with his friend and future brother-in-law.
LYNDSEY & NICK’S FIRST LOOK
Lyndsey and Nick’s first look took place outside the Lyndsey’s parents’ house in front of the beautiful hydrangea arch with their bridal party taking it in from a distance.
The bridal party boarded a bus and were taken to Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg for portraits in front of the beautiful banyan trees.
The afternoon rain showers didn’t put a damper on Lyndsey and Nick’s Saint Petersburg Florida wedding! Nick was ever the gentleman as he offered his jacket to protect Lyndsey’s hair and dress from the rain.
The towering banyan trees were epic and provided a beautiful backdrop for all of the portraits! We could have stayed here all afternoon but it was off to the church for the ceremony!
Lyndsey and Nick’s beautiful wedding ceremony was held inside St. Mary’s Church in St. Petersburg.
Their expressions just seconds before being pronounced husband and wife are just the sweetest!
POST CEREMONY PORTRAITS
Seriously, Lyndsey’s laugh was the best!
Lyndsey and Nick have to be some of the most joyful and positive people out there and their portrait session was one of the most fun moments of the day! Especially when it came time to get on a boat…
Lyndsey’s parents’ house sits on the water so Lyndsey and Nick decided to arrive at their reception by boat…I mean, who wouldn’t?! They were carefully escorted by her brother, who was very proud to be tasked with their arrival!
The happy newlyweds arrived at their reception and were greeted by their adoring guests waving them in as they docked.
They shared their first dance on the dock which was lined with string lights and beautiful fresh flowers.
Lyndsey enjoyed an incredibly sweet dance on the dock with her father as everyone looked on.
Next it was Nick’s turn as he and his mother danced in the warm afternoon sun.
Finally all that was left was to enjoy the rest of the evening! Lyndsey and Nick joined the rest of the guests on the palm tree framed lawn as everyone mingled together.
After toasts and cake cutting the only thing left to do was dance! Lyndsey, Nick and their friends and family danced all night under string lights with the refreshing Florida breeze cooling the air to the perfect temperature!
The evening ended with Lyndsey and Nick being showered in sparkly silver streamers! It was the perfect way to end what had been an incredible day!
The only thing that could make the day even more incredible was the news that Lyndsey and Nick’s wedding had been chosen to be featured in the New York Times Vows section of the paper! Lyndsey grew up reading the Vows section and when she was planning her original March wedding she had submitted their wedding and was chosen! Then everything had to be rescheduled. Once they had their new date they reached out again and were able to work it out that they could be included once again in the NYT Vows! We were so incredibly excited for them!
We had the absolute best time with Lyndsey, Nick and their family and friends! The joy that was shared by everyone was incredible! Their Saint Petersburg Florida wedding had gone from a larger affair at an art museum to an intimate backyard celebration on the water and it was perfection!
Congratulations Lyndsey and Nick! We wish you a lifetime of love, laughter and so many adventures together!
